Otsikko: Railbus? Kirjoitti: Peter Montfrooij - Tammikuu 08, 2015, 16:59:39 The first picture is scanned and uploaded, but I have a question about this railbus that was standing near the locomotive shed in Jyväskylä in May 2002
http://www.trainsandtrucks.nl/imageTable.php?imageID=2770 What kind of railbus is this and who is / was using it? (PS, you can reply in Finnish, I will use google translate for basic translation) Thanks! Peter Otsikko: Vs: Railbus? Kirjoitti: Topi Lajunen - Tammikuu 08, 2015, 18:50:38 This is Rau 2. Currently resting in Jyväskylä, fortunately indoors.
Someone else might have better info about its past usage. Pictures on this site: http://vaunut.org/kuvat/?tt=23&i1=Rau&i2=2&p=0 Otsikko: Vs: Railbus? Kirjoitti: Tuukka Ryyppö - Tammikuu 08, 2015, 21:48:47 Het is dus geen spoorbus, maar een groete gemotoriseerde draisine.

Onko jotain kertoa lisää historiasta tämän handcar? (Hope Google Translate works good enough) Otsikko: Vs: Railbus? Kirjoitti: Tuukka Ryyppö - Tammikuu 09, 2015, 15:15:03 (Hope Google Translate works good enough) No, it actually doesn't. Though, by cheer luck those two lines were kind of understandable. Google translate cannot translate from Dutch to Finnish. But, it can translate from Dutch to English and from English to Finnish. And that's what it does. However, that is a very stupid thing for GT to do, because it produces very incorrect text. Why? This is why: Google Translate can produce grammatically very incorrect but almost completely understandable English from Dutch IF the Dutch has been written completely correctly and with good grammar. If the original Dutch has a bad grammar, then the resulting text will be absolutely impossible to understand, because the computer can only understand correct grammar. Now, when you tell Google to translate NL->FI, it first produces bad English from your good Dutch. Then it translates that bad English into Finnish. But, because Google Translate is only able to translate good English to Finnish, its own bad English produces just unintelligible gibberish. It's quite common for the word "not" to disappear from the sentence during the double-translation so that "This must not be done!" becomes "This must be done!" in the resulting text. For example the Russian word for poor (as in somebody not having money) got translated into Dutch as "slecht" still a while ago... So that "This is a story of a poor girl" became "This a story of a bad girl" because in the middle there was the English word "poor", that means both "arm" and "slecht". When a google double translation is being read, you can never be sure if there should be the word "no" somewhere or if some other word has changed, such as "poor" becoming "bad" or similar. So, either write English and let Google translate that into Finnish or, better, just write English. Or write in English, let Google translate that and then write BOTH the original English and the Google-Finnish here :) Otsikko: Vs: Railbus? Now for a rebound on the Rau-2: Thanks for the reply! I can learn from them. Is there anything more to tell about the history of the railcar? Or translated by Google Translate : Kiitos vastauksesta! Voin oppia niistä. Onko mitään kerrottavaa historiasta junavaunun? Hope to find more on the history of the Rau-2, to improve the information on the site. :) Otsikko: Vs: Railbus? Kirjoitti: Olli Keski-Rahkonen - Tammikuu 09, 2015, 17:07:21 Hi Peter!
These small railcars were mainly used for inspection rides and travels of railway officials. I don't have any literature here at hand, but I think this particular Rau 2 is from late 1950s or early 1960s. Many Finnish companies produced quite similar types of railcars, the major manufacturers being truck companies Sisu and Vanaja. Some of these cars were in use until 1980s and even until 1990s. I think the last cars in use were of this type: http://vaunut.org/kuva/28970. Pictures of various railcars can be found here: http://vaunut.org/kuvat/?tag0=23 Otsikko: Vs: Railbus?
